In case you're keeping score at home:
Moved to Atlanta in late September to open a casting company with my mentor, Cynthia Stillwell (and GET THE HELL OUT OF LA). We didn't find much work. So I took a dozen odd jobs to make ends meet here in Atlanta and LA (where I still pay rent with my surrogate brother and roommate of 13 years, Linc Hand, who is working non-stop - did you see REVENGE!?) and you know... make movies.
I started off with the intent of shooting INSTALLATION here in Atlanta in April and well... that didn't work out for us. Schedule. Money. Budget. You revise and amend and look for another date and sometimes that forces you to lose the goregous German, Jo Weil and pick up the hotness that is Jaason Simmons.
You revise. You ammend. You move on.
So Cynthia and I finally, FINALLY get a project. This "little" film called SELMA produced by some up and comers named Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt. And we are doing the location principals and extra and I'm FINALLY making money to pay off broken arms and cancer scares and... It's time to go back to Savannah.
My film, THE DAMNED, (which was originally THE TELLING, then THE MARKED after a rewrite with another writer, and then went back to the story of THE TELLING, because they liked the original better... but now is a page-one rewrite FOR THE EPICALLY better) is moving foward.
And that's exciting. (Seriously... these guys from Medient give incredible notes and "know" story. And that's AFTER they bought my script.... it's going to be incredible....)
But dammit... I wanted to be on this film, SELMA!
It's a MASSIVE film and on the one hand... yeah, whew! I helped cast the principals and lock in the first week of extras, but the brunt of the work is yet to come. The marches. The bridge work. The on-location work IN Selma. I was so excited about that.
But sometimes God and the Universe or whatever you want to call it says, "we're moving this way now. Come and follow me. NOW... what are you doing...?" And that's it.
Ava DuVernay. I speak your name. I'm insprired by you. I want to be you when I grow up. She's a former Sundance winner, but with this epic project, she's going to explode. The film will be nominated for Oscars. I love this woman. And it kills me that I won't be in her presence every day. But then one day, your life opens up and says, "hey little buddy... time to go kill a dozen people in Savannah on your first studio feature."
And guess what? In 4 days MY first feature comes out. (CLICK HERE NOW!) And my recently stalled web series (due to a fire in our composers home) will start back up again. And I'm going to go back into pre-pro on INSTALLATION with Jaason Simmons who is ALSO helping produce. And hopefully HELL HOUSE will go after THE DAMNED. And season two of PROJECT: PHOENIX. And the other three scripts I'm working on...
Find your flow. Tap into your flow. That's where the magic happens.
And no matter what happnes: Love and Light.
Trust a bitch.
