"You’ll be so petrified and try to control a situation and the moment you let go and fall down the elevator shaft thinking you're going to hit the bottom in the complete darkness, you end up in this beautiful pool of mermaids and it’s better than anything you ever thought." - Hunter S Thompson
I've had an incredible week.
I often find that I don't celebrate my small victories and instead, focus on the negative and let it consume me.
But this has been an incredible week.
BIRTHDAY CAKE premiered in Kansas City ten days ago and we won Best Comedy Film! Our first festival and our first win.
I'm in Philadelphia July 15&16 for our two nights at QFest and I'm really excited to meet with some distributors about the distribution of the film. From Philly, we play Durham, North Carolina in August, Cincinnati and Palm Springs in September and a city very near and dear to me in October. Festival programmers are just starting to line-up films for October (of which we are out to 19 festivals...) so October will be very busy.
So proud of the film. So proud of the message of the film and so happy that the film is taking off. We had a cast and crew and friends screening Sunday and it was a blast. So much love in that room.
MOVING DAY was accepted into the DC Shorts Festival in September. We play numerous times, but we are also one of the opening night films. So incredibly happy about playing in DC and the feedback the festival gave us was mindblowingly awesome.
GROOM'S CAKE was just accepted into the Crested Butte Film Festival in September in Colorado!
So the next few months are going to be be a blast.
HELL HOUSE is picking up momentum again with some new energy. We're looking for the funding on THE MARKED (to shoot next year) I'm developing another script with a friend. James Rhine and I are going to start a rewrite on our TAGGED, thanks to new interest in the script.
We're finally closing post on PROJECT: PHOENIX and hope to premiere it in September, though I may wait till October to take advantage of Halloween.
Then there's X-RATED. In a perfect world, we will be rolling camera finally in November. I've had a number of people come into my life recently that I think may finally be the angels I have asked for to get it done. We're scheduling and budgeting and locking and loading. I'm really excited to get this film done because of the message in the film and I think it will truly help people with addiction issues.
Sometimes you have to leap. Have faith that what you are doing is the right thing. And hope that a net will catch you.
But if a net doesn't catch you, pray for a pool full of mermaids.
