It's Finally Starting to Slowly Come Together

Boy howdy is this process slow.

I had to turn down a job.  (It felt really foolish at the time, but totally necessary now).  I was up to be an assistant to the producer on Katherine Heigl's new movie.  Really loved everyone I met, but there were two problems:  1) They are on a Saturday - Wednesday work week.  Which means I would miss ALL of my training for the Lifecycle with a group.  I would have had to train by myself.

And 2) It's really hard to start a job and go in saying, "by the way, I have two pilots and meetings are starting to get set up, so just so you know... I'm not going to be here Monday afternoon and possibly Tuesday morning."

I had to turn it down before knowing that meetings were in fact going to happen, even though I was told they were working on times.

Fortunately, a few hours later, I got an e-mail that the production company behind GHOULS is looking to set a meeting next week or the week after and the studio wants me to meet MONDAY to pitch MERCY.

SO... I made the right choice.  Though I would have loved to do the film.  But there was just no way it was going to work with my schedule and not kill me come June for the ride.

Last night, Greg, Jon Fleming and I met up at JD Disalvatore's party "The Smoking Cocktail" at the Standard.  Great people, but seriously, if the music had been any louder, I would be deaf.  I don't understand why at mixers, where people are supposed to TALK, that the DJ cranks music up so loud you have to literally scream to be heard.

I also got to see - cue the Google alert! :) - Andrea James, who (or whom, which is it?) I met Monday night at Calpernia's screening.  We got separated and I stayed in the corner for the rest of the night.

Eventually Haviland arrived with her friends Nadia and Craig.  Haviland and I have not seen each other in ten years.  I used to work with her mother.  She's been doing Broadway for the past few years and is starting to make her way out here.

Jon introduced me to Charlie David, who is one of the co-stars of Jon's show DANTE'S COVE.  Thea Gill was there as well.  There may have been more people from the cast, but it was dark.

Afterwards, Jon, Haviland, Charlie, Meredith (Jon's girlfriend) and I went to Jerry's and I had a great time talking to Charlie about his project MULLIGAN'S and how hard it is to get an independent made.  (He wrote, produced and stars in it.)

This morning, Haviland and I met up with Craig at Fred 62 where I got a call from my manager.  It was THEN the production company wanted to talk about where the show goes before we meet with the studio on Monday.

And it was a GREAT conversation.  I went outside and walked up and down Vermont for a half hour and really got the seeds I needed from him before I could really move on and develop the series pitch.

The big news:  the entire series has changed.  The pilot still stands, but the endgame of where it was going is completely different now.  And after talking to Kathy, we're really excited about the new direction of it.

They are looking at the show as being the new TWIN PEAKS.  And if anyone knows that show... it's me.

Only two more episodes of CELEBRITY REHAB after tonight...
